Your US Box Fin
Scanned the QR code on your fin's packaging? You're in the right place. This guide covers how to identify your US Box setup, how to install and remove it correctly, and how to keep it in good shape for as many sessions as possible.
How to identify it: a US Box (also called a US Fin System box) is a single rectangular slot with a visible track, roughly 20–23cm long, most common on longboards, single-fin setups, and SUP boards. The fin's base slides along the track and locks in place with a set screw.
Installing & Removing a US Box Fin
Slide the fin's base into the box and position it at your preferred spot along the track. Tighten the set screw with a US Box (hex/Allen) key until it's snug against the fin base.
To remove, loosen the set screw and slide the fin straight out.
Care & Maintenance
- Rinse the fin and the box track with fresh water after every session to clear sand and salt.
- Periodically remove the fin fully and rinse inside the box, since debris build-up is the most common cause of a fin that won't slide.
- Don't over-tighten the set screw — it can crack the fin base or strip the screw thread.
- Keep spare set screws on hand; they're small and easy to lose.
- Check the fin base where it contacts the box rails for wear, especially on well-used boards.
Compatibility
US Box fins only fit boards with a US Box (US Fin System) track — they are not interchangeable with FCS, Futures, or Quick-Lock systems without an adapter. Because the box is a track rather than a fixed slot, fin position is adjustable: move it forward for a looser, more pivotal feel, or back for more hold and drive.
