Future Fins Installation Guide

Your Futures Fins

Scanned the QR code on your fin's packaging? You're in the right place. This guide covers how to identify your Futures setup, how to install and remove it correctly, and how to keep it in good shape for as many sessions as possible.

How to identify it: flip your board over and look at the tail. A Futures box is a single, long, narrow slot per fin — noticeably longer than either side of an FCS dual-tab box — secured by one screw near the back of the tab.

Installing & Removing Futures Fins

Slide the fin's tab fully forward into the box until it's seated all the way. Insert the single Futures screw at the back of the tab and tighten with a Phillips or Futures screwdriver — snug, not over-tight.

To remove, loosen the screw a few turns (no need to remove it completely) and slide the fin tab out toward the tail.

Care & Maintenance

  • Rinse fins and boxes with fresh water after every session, especially in saltwater.
  • Dry away from direct sun or heat to prevent warping or discoloring the tab.
  • Check the single mounting screw regularly for corrosion or a stripped head — it's the fin's only point of attachment.
  • Keep a couple of spare Futures screws in your kit; a stripped screw is the most common Futures issue.
  • A drop of light oil or wax on the screw threads occasionally helps prevent seizing.
  • Never force an over-tightened screw — it can crack the tab or the box itself.

Compatibility

Futures fins only fit boards with a Futures box — they are not interchangeable with FCS, FCS II, US Box, or Quick-Lock systems. The longer single-tab connection is generally favored for a more flexible, responsive feel through turns.

  • Look for a single, long, narrow slot in the tail per fin — longer than either slot of an FCS dual-tab box — with one screw near the back.

  • Stop turning immediately. Remove the stripped screw carefully (pliers if needed) and replace it with a new Futures-compatible screw — don't force a stripped screw further.

  • Yes, a Phillips-head or Futures fin screwdriver/multi-tool. Most new Futures fins ship with one.

  • Yes, as long as both boards have Futures boxes of a compatible generation.

  • A little flex in the fin material is by design. Visible movement of the fin inside the box means the screw needs tightening or the box may be worn.
