GNARWALL Review: The Best Way to Store Your Surfboard or SUP on the Wall

If you own more than one board, you've almost certainly dealt with the storage problem. Boards propped in corners, taking up floor space, getting knocked over, accumulating dings. The GNARWALL was designed to solve exactly this — a wall-mounted board rack that protects your boards, saves space and actually looks good in your home.

What is the GNARWALL?

The GNARWALL is a wall-mounted storage system for surfboards and SUP boards. It mounts directly to your wall and holds boards in a horizontal or vertical position, keeping them off the floor and out of harm's way. The design is clean and minimal — in a dedicated surf room or garage it looks at home; in a living space it blends in rather than standing out.

The arms are padded to protect boards from pressure dings and surface damage. The mounting hardware is solid, and installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable with basic wall fixings.

The Four GNARWALL Configurations

Vertical Rack — €25.95

The entry-level option. A single vertical wall mount holds one board nose-up, taking up minimal floor space and no width on the wall. Ideal for a single shortboard or fish in a bedroom, hallway or apartment. Available in hard birch wood or transparent acrylic — the acrylic version works well in lighter rooms where the wood would stand out.

Horizontal Rack — €35.95

The most versatile option in the range. Two padded arms hold one board horizontally against the wall. Works for shortboards, mid-lengths, longboards and most SUPs. If you're buying your first GNARWALL and only have one board, this is the right choice — it handles every board type and the installation is simple.

Multi-Board Rack — €99.95

Holds up to six boards side by side on independently adjustable arms. If you have more than two boards currently scattered around your space, this is the proper solution. The arms accommodate different board widths — shortboards, wider SUPs and everything in between can share the same rack without modification. The most cost-effective option per board once you own three or more.

Drip & Dry Rack — €99.95

A practical addition for anyone who comes home wet after a session. The drip tray catches water from boards, wetsuits and gear, keeping your floor clean. Particularly useful in entrance halls and garages where post-session cleanup is a regular chore. Pairs well with the horizontal rack if you want a complete storage and drying solution in one area.

Surfboard vs SUP Storage

The GNARWALL works equally well for shortboards, longboards and SUP boards, but arm spacing matters for wider boards. For standard surfboards the standard configuration works straight out of the box. For wider SUP boards — particularly inflatable SUPs which are thick as well as wide — check the arm dimensions against your board's width before ordering. The multi-board rack gives the most flexibility here as the arms adjust independently.

Installation

Most installations take under an hour. The mounting hardware included covers solid concrete and brick walls, which are the most common wall types. For plasterboard or drywall you'll need to locate studs or use hollow-wall fixings rated for the weight of your boards; the instructions cover both scenarios clearly.

The design allows for horizontal adjustment after mounting, so you can align the arms precisely to your board without re-drilling. If you're in a rented apartment, the fixing points are discrete and the holes are easy to fill later.

Why Proper Board Storage Matters

Boards that lean against walls in corners are more vulnerable than they look. Pressure dings build up wherever the board contacts a hard surface. Temperature swings in a car boot or unventilated shed cause delamination over time. A board that falls over in a hallway has a new ding. The GNARWALL eliminates all of these failure modes at once.

For a surfboard or SUP worth €400–800, the cost of the rack is negligible against the protection it provides. For more on protecting your boards — including temperature, UV exposure, and travel storage — see our complete guide to storing surfboards and SUPs at home.

The Verdict

The GNARWALL is a straightforward product that solves a real problem well. Build quality is good, pricing is fair, and the range covers almost every storage scenario — from a single board in a small flat to a six-board quiver in a dedicated surf room. If your boards aren't properly stored, this is the fix.
