Marina Grimaldi: From Canary Island Waves to Madrid's Rapid Scene

Born and raised in Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands, Marina grew up surrounded by the ocean. It became her second home — the only place where she could fully feel herself, where her problems seemed to disappear out there in the waves. She spent countless hours surfing, bodyboarding, and diving in those Atlantic waters.

Finding Waves in the City

In 2015, Marina relocated to mainland Spain to pursue sport science studies in Madrid. Leaving the ocean behind wasn't easy, but she discovered something unexpected — rapid surfing at Citywave Madrid. Working there allowed her to stay connected to her passion, trading Atlantic swells for the fast, technical world of standing waves. Despite being far from the sea, she makes getting back in the water a priority whenever she can.
