SUP Fin Compatibility – US-Box, Slide-In & Smartlock
Choosing the right SUP fin starts with knowing your mounting system. The three most common types are US-Box, Slide-In / Quick-Lock, and Smartlock. Each system changes how your board tracks, turns and glides — and which fins will fit.
US-Box is the long single track you adjust with a screw or clip. It’s derived from longboard surfing and widely used on touring, all-round and racing SUPs. The big advantage is universality and adjustability: you can slide the fin forward (more maneuverability) or back (more tracking) and choose from many aftermarket fins.
Slide-In / Quick-Lock is common on many inflatable SUPs. The fin slides into a plastic channel and locks without tools. It’s fast and beginner-friendly, but offers less fore-aft adjustment and is usually tied to brand-specific shapes. Aqua Marina’s center fins are a classic example of a Slide-In mount.
Smartlock is a proprietary push-click fin used by brands like Bluefin. It’s extremely quick to mount, but compatibility is limited to boards built for Smartlock. If you have a Bluefin board from the Cruise/Aura/Voyage/Sprint ranges, you’re likely using this system.
Use the comparison table below to match your board to the right fin and choose between touring glide (deeper, longer fins) and shallow-water safety (shorter river fins). All fins in this collection are Made in Germany from recycled materials and tested on rivers, lakes and coastal routes.
Tip: If your box has a long track + screw → it’s US-Box. If it’s a clip-in plastic channel → Slide-In. If it’s a brand-specific click tab on Bluefin (or similar) → Smartlock.
